Pokémon: Detective Pikachu

Ariana Dockey, Staffer

The film was released in May 2019, and it was directed by Rob Letterman. The movie includes many interesting scenes, with many different characters. Almost everyone was a fan of the Pokémon and they watched every game or “fight.” It was like a new sport, but all new things can become too much.  The Pokémon were like new superheroes in the city.

The beginning of the movie was confusing for me because I had no clue what had happened, but it quickly seemed to turn into a tragedy. For the next few minutes I couldn’t really say I was happy with the movie. The movie is also very fast-paced, you can’t really tell what is happening during certain scenes. I feel like the scenes could have flown together more smoothly.

There are many different parts of a movie and some scenes can be better than others. Towards the middle of the movie it seemed to come together and they had amazing special effects, like when Pikachu fought Charizard and won. Pikachu went on to win many more battles, which gave him a high social status.  When rating movies, I wonder how movie critics actually rate them? If I would have to rate this movie, I would give it a 3 out of 5. This is because there were so many parts that looked great but didn’t seem to wrap together.
