Descendants 3: Movie Review

Kayla Massey, Staffer

The film was released in August 2019, and was directed by Kenny Ortega. It is a sequel to the other 2 Descendents movies, also directed by, Ortega. He also directed a lot of other Disney movies, the High School Musical trilogy, Hocus Pocus, and Newsies. There was going to be a 4th film made, but they decided not to make it. The reason for this was because the actor that played Carlos (son of Cruella de Vil), Cameron Boyce, died from a seizure after filming this installment in the series. The film wouldn’t have been the same without Cameron Boyce’s portrayal of Carlos.

The concept of this movie is a villain becomes queen Mal (daughter of Maleficent).  What I was thinking while watching this movie was, are they gonna be able to break the curse? My favorite scene of the movie is when the daughter of Aurora (Audrey) takes the crown and the scepter. This scene also has a song to go along with it called “Queen of Mean.”  This movie has a lot of team bonding in it and coming together to work as a team to break the spell. I was honestly very excited to see this movie when it came out. The first two movies were so good I wanted to see if the third one was just as good.

At the end of each of the other movies, the next movie just picks up where the last left off. Watching this movie can teach you how to make sacrifices. You also learn to work together and have leadership skills. This movie also has a series of songs throughout the entirety of the movie, one of my favorite songs is queen of mean. At the end of this movie everyone come to a happy ending and gets what they want. My high rating is based on the performance, set up of the movie, and the story in general was very good.
