Hamlet Trip

Derek Hoffman, Staffer

The  English Department hosted a trip to go to a historic theater in Allentown,  Civic Theater,  to watch a  broadcast of Shakespeare’s play, Hamlet. The play was aired by National Theatre Live, an organization that was started in 2009 and have since broadcasted plays to be seen by over 5.5 million people. With their most popular broadcast being Hamlet with Benedict Cumberbatch.

The theater itself was a lot smaller than I would’ve expected, which wasn’t a bad thing at all. Actually that was something I was hoping for because that meant there wouldn’t be a bunch of random people not with the school showing up. Later, I found out that the play was so long that it even had an intermission. However, I reminded myself that it was better than going to school, so I sat back and enjoyed the play. At one point even I swear I fell asleep, although I can’t say for sure. Eventually, after a very long few hours, the play was over and we were ready to head home. The play was somewhat entertaining- at most. Those sort of plays aren’t my thing. So if you enjoy that style of entertainment, I’m sure it would be perfect for you.
