All Nighters

Staying up all night. Fun or No?

Elektra Mease, Staffer

All nighters. Twenty-four hours. Awake. Some people can actually do this and be fine. Others can try and possibly succeed. It is probably not the best idea to do it “for fun”. All kinds of people do it for many reasons, from work to just having fun.

I think the most common group of people that do this are  teenage girls. For starters, they love the internet. They’re pretty much always on it. They also like to be on the phone or FaceTiming people so that can keep them up.

Another example is getting their heartbroken. If a girl goes through a break-up, she will most likely cry for a while and, if it’s at night, the relationship can keep them up.

Another group is teenage boys. They also like to be on their phones and using social media. What I believe is the most common reason for boys being up all night is video games. Usually, they’re playing them all day and they never check the time. Then the next thing they know, it’s 3:46 A.M. and they have to go to school soon.

All nighters can be okay for those days where you have nothing going on the next day, but they can also really mess up one’s sleep schedule. You will have fun that night but you might regret it in the morning. According to lifehacker.com, ”Denying your body sleep is naturally unhealthy. … If minimizing sleep is a part of your typical routine, you’re going to ruin any of the productivity benefits you’d gain with those extra few hours. Allnighters are also not great for your memory, attention, or focus the following day.”
