Evolution: PGAHS Through the Decades

An empty classroom representing the empty chairs of graduates.

For the next few weeks, this will be a written series of first hand accounts from graduates and current students who have spent most of their life in Pine Grove Area.

To this day, several graduates from Pine Grove Area High School (PGAHS) still live in the district. From the 1950s, all the way up to the current graduates, Pine Grove Area is full of alumni with interesting stories.

Families in the area have graduated from the same school for generations. The change from the age of pen and paper, to everything being online is just one of the several ways high school has evolved since the 1950s. The way students dress has changed dramatically as well. Button-up shirts and slacks are a thing of the past. In a  modern high school, dress codes have been relaxed, and less formal clothing has become more socially acceptable.

PGASD can’t wait for more graduates who still have a long way to go. The current students may think their graduation is a long way away because they’re only in elementary or  middle school. However, before they know it, they will be another class shelving their memories, receiving their high school diploma, and marking another year of Pine Grove Area history.
