On February 26, 2020, Netflix released the show I Am Not Okay With This, the creators are Jonathan Entwistle and Christy Hall. This show features Sophia Lillis as Sydney, the main character, followed by Wyatt Oleff as Stanley, Sydney’s neighbor and friend. Sydney’s best friend, Dina, is played by Sofia Bryant and Dina’s “boyfriend” Brad is portrayed by Richard Ellis. 

The show begins with a foreshadowing of the future where Sydney runs down an empty street covered in blood. You will see why this scene is so important later in the season. The mystery doesn’t stop there, however. Throughout the show, she realizes that her powers only activate when she’s angry or upset. That’s not the only thing in her life that’s bothering her. Her home life with her parents might have something to do with the powers.

At home, Sydney and her mother, Maggie, have not gotten along since Sydney’s  father killed himself. Maggie depends on her for a lot since she “works” all the time. Sydney also has to take care of her little brother, Liam, which makes her more of a mother figure to him. 

One day, Sydney has enough of everything and decides to go in the basement where her father died. She starts to look for answers about why he killed himself. Later, her mother came in and started talking to her about her dad and said that he wasn’t a good person and he had problems that he never talked about.   For example, when he was mad he ran out of the room like he was going to throw up. That’s when Sydney realized she got her powers from her dad.

In the last few episodes, there’s someone following her. After the incident with the blood, she runs into the “stalker” which leads into a cliffhanger at the end of that season. Overall, the first season was amazing and it’s a great mystery. I can not wait for the second season.
