Valentine’s Day: Holiday or Peer Pressure

February 14th is Valentine’s Day and quite frankly, one of the worst days of the year. This is the first Valentine’s Day in 3 years that I’ve spent alone and honestly, it’s horrible. Being by yourself and lonely on Valentine’s Day is in every which way worse than spending it with someone. If you spend it with someone, it’s fun and exciting and full of joy but if you spend it alone then it’s just a nightmare. Love isn’t something that is based on time. You can always show or never show love. It should not be based on a day where people are asked to buy things and do things to “prove their love.” Just because a man does not buy his wife flowers on February 14th does not mean that he doesn’t love his wife of forty years.

Valentines Day could either be an amazing day to spend with your significant other, or it could be a sad and lonely day where you sit at home eating cake on the couch. This year, I’m the girl eating cake on the couch. Valentine’s Day in my opinion is meant to be spent going for dinner, receiving flowers, chocolates, teddy bears, etc. If you have someone to go and spend your day or time with, it could be an amazing day but if you don’t then it kinda is just like any other day. I can’t stand being lonely on Valentine”s Day and watching other couples kiss or hug and hold hands, grosses me out. For some odd reason it doesn’t on any other day but today it’s just so much worse.
