Let’s face it, every teenager has social media. Social media is a great way to connect with people, without social media we as teenagers almost feel disconnected from the world, but is social media really as good as it seems?

I have often debated whether or not to delete social media. Social media can be a great thing but it can also distract you from enjoying the real world. It can also have a toll on your mental health. Studies have shown that social media can cause depression, anxiety, lack of sleep, and low self esteem.

So should you delete social media? Well, that’s up to you. If you feel like you’re constantly comparing yourself to others or maybe the only reason you have social media is because everyone else has it, ask yourself if it is having a positive or negative effect on your self esteem.

I have felt both positive and negative effects before. I downloaded Facebook when I was 10 years old, then Instagram, Snapchat, and so on. Sometimes I regret it. I wonder what life would be like without scrolling through my feed every day.

Deleting social media may not be the answer, but I think everyone should take a break once in a while. Enjoy the real world.
