“I knew it was in reach, nothing is impossible,” that is what senior softball player Kate Rittenbaugh had to say after getting her 150th hit. Last Saturday, after the Championship game of the Cardinal Classic Softball Tournament, senior Kate Rittenbaugh was greeted with a banner that read simply “150 Hits”. During the game Kate had gotten her 150th hit of her high school career. She is a 4 year varsity starter and has been playing softball for 12 years. There has never been a player in school history with 150 career hits and Rittenbaugh is the first. “I knew it was in reach, nothing is impossible,” she said regarding the eclipse of 150 hits. Kate had no idea she was even close to 150 hits. The thing she did know, was that she can do anything and that anything can happen.

Rittenbaugh has worked tirelessly hitting in the cage, off a tee, off a machine and off her dad pitching. “It (the 150th hit) shows that all my hard work is paying off,” said Rittenbaugh. Hard work is an understatement to the amount of effort and time that she has put into softball.   Asking her who she thanks most for getting her where she is today she said her dad. Kate’s dad has been a big motivator in her life and has always pushed her to keep getting better every single day. “I thank my dad for spending all the time hitting with me and pushing me to my potential.” 150 hits is an incredible achievement but the big question, is 200.

“I don’t think it’s impossible but I’m not going to try and press to get it because I don’t like to worry about stats. I just want to go out and have fun,” said Rittenbaugh. Stats aren’t the thing she loves most. She loves winning and pays little attention to the stats she puts up. “My favorite memory is holding up the trophies when we won League and District championships.” Kate continues her chase of 200 hits as her team continues on today with a game againstPottsville.
