Lady Cards Fall Hard to Olympians

The Pine Grove Lady Cardinals faced off against the Jim Thorpe Lady Olympians on Thursday December 19th. The starting lineup for the Lady Cardinals was Mikali Donmoyer,  Kailen Felty, Alli Butler, Bailey Dorson, and Abbie Brown. The Lady Cardinals got off on the wrong foot by losing the opening tip to the Lady Olympians. Donmoyer would start the game off for the Lady Cardinals with a mid range jump shot about a minute into the game. The Lady Olympians responded with a 20-0 run and would take the lead 20-2 with 53 seconds left in the first quarter. Kira Shollenberger would make a layup with 38 seconds left. At the end of the first quarter, the Lady Cardinals would be losing 20-4. 

The Lady Olympians would strike first in the second quarter and went on a 13-0 run and extend the lead 35-4. Donmoyer would make a 3 to end the scoring drought with 1:36 left in the half, making the score 35-7. The Lady Olympians would make a layup with 1:08 and make the score 37-7. Brown would shoot two free throws with 41 seconds left in the half. The Lady Olympians would shoot two free throws with 20 seconds left in the half. They would only be successful on one of the free throw attempts and make the score 38-9. Donmoyer said, “With Jim Thorpe being one of the top teams in the league, they were obviously projected to win by most people but that meant we had nothing to lose. I wanted to go out. I wanted to try and do anything I could do to help the team give Jim Thorpe a run for their money.”

The third quarter would start off with two layups from Jim Thorpe extending the Lady Olympian Lead to 42-9. Shollenberger would make a mid range jump shot with 3:33 left in the third to narrow the gap. Jim Thorpe would follow up with two layups. With 49 seconds left Jim Thorpe would make another layup to further extend the lead 52-13. 

Jim Thorpe would strike first in the fourth quarter with a layup just about one minute into the first quarter extending the lead 54-13. Donmoyer then started to hit her shots and made 4 straight three pointers for the Lady Cardinals. This would cut the lead by 12, bringing the game to a score of 25-54. Donmoyer would finish off this streak with making 2 free throws to help close the gap for the Lady Cardinals, with a score of 27-54. With just over four minutes left in the game, the Lady Olympians would make two layups to help improve their lead to 27-58. The Lady Cardinals and Lady Olympians would trade buckets with just over two minutes left, making the score 29-60. Madison Betz would make a three pointer and a layup at the last minute and make the final score 34-60.
