Williams Valley takes down Cardinals in Overtime

Cardinal Football took on their second rival, William’s Valley. The first quarter was tough on Cardinal defense. At the end of the first quarter, the game was scoreless. In the second Quarter, Josh Leininger’s pass was intercepted by the Vikings. After the interception, the Vikings scored a touchdown, Cardinals trailing, 7-0. During the second quarter, Josh Leininger ran the ball for gain on the field. Vikings taking control of the field again, scoring a second touchdown leaving 22.9 seconds left in the first half.

Opening drive of the second half Cardinals had possession of the ball. Cardinals came back in the second half with strong defense keeping the Vikings at bay. Cardinals get the ball back, Josh Leininger throws a pass to Dillon Kintzel for a gain on the field. “It was the first pass I caught this season, it was a good gain for us at that point in the game,” said Kintzel.

Josh Leininger was first to put up points for the Cardinals but the kick was wide, 14-6. Colin Luckenbill tied the game up with a 22 yard run. Dawson Ibarra caught a pass from Josh Leininger for a two point conversion. Andrew Griffiths recovered a fumble, making it the Cardinals ball. “I was really hype- thinking we were going to win. It was a turning point in the game.” Vikings and Cardinals had a tied game, sending the game into overtime. Vikings took possession of the ball in overtime. Williams Valley scored, 21-14. Williams Valley stopped Dalton Kintzel at the 1- yard line. They won the game 21-14 in overtime, giving varsity their third loss of the season.
