Cards Shine Over Spartans

“It was a really nice win for the seniors tonight on senior night. The two seniors and their teammates really pulled through to make this victory happen,” said Coach Drey. The Cardinals wrestled the North Schuylkill Spartans for the last home game of the regular season. This contest was Senior Night for the two wrestling seniors: Dillon Kintzel and Peyton Nuske. It was also Senior Night for the lone senior Varsity Cheerleader, Kaitlynn Koppenhaver. The Cardinals won the wrestling contest over the Spartans, 38-36. The first match of the night started at the weight class of 170 pounds. Cardinals wrestler, Caleb Reiter, pinned his opponent with 50 seconds left in the third period. the next match was also a win for the Cardinals. Hayden Kennemore, wrestling at 182 pounds, won over his opponent in 14 seconds. Cardinals started the match strong, but the Spartans would not be outdone.

With the Cardinals being up 12-0, the Spartans looked to gain a few points. The Spartans look to gain 6 points during the match at 195 pounds. Peyton Nuske had beaten his opponent during his match in the first period with one minute and three seconds left. Spartans won the match at 220 pounds over Cardinals’ wrestler, Chris Shadle, in a 5-3 decision in the Spartans favor. The Spartans would still be down by 3 at 18-3 but gain 6 more points by forfeit at 285 pounds. As the Cardinals continue to have the lead, 18-9, the Cardinals would look to gain more points. Travis Anderson, wrestling at 113 pounds, would win his match 16-1 to tie the score back up, 23-9. North Schuylkill would have two forfeit wins at the weight classes 113 pounds and 120 pounds. Those forfeit would make the score, Cardinals 23-Spartans 27. The Cardinals would look to regain the lead but not until after another forfeit at 126 pounds making the score 23-33.

The Cardinals would try and make up for their forfeits as Noah Venzel wrestles at 132 pounds. He would lose a tough match by a 1-0 decision in his opponents favor. The Spartans would have the lead over the Cardinals 23-30. As the Cardinals look to get points, Ayden Ney gets his team points. Ayden, wrestling at 138 pounds,  pins his opponent in two minutes and on second. As the Cardinals still trailing 29-30 to the Spartans. Chris Charles looked to regain the lead for the Cardinals. Chris wrestled at 145 pounds and won his match by a 9-3 decision in his favor. The Cardinals retook the lead, 32-30. North Schuylkill took the lead back by a forfeit in the 152 pound weight class. The last match of the night was by Dillon Kintzel who wrestled at 160 pounds and won his match by pin in one minutes and eighteen seconds. Kintzel commented, “Winning my last home match felt great. I’m glad to say that my team won my last home match.” Dillon gave the Cardinals the 38-36 victory over the Spartans and as a result won the last regular season home match.
