January 2021 Senior of the Month, Kaitlyn Ruhl.

McKenna Valentine and Brandon Unger

Each Senior of the Month was asked 10 questions…

1.How do you feel about being a senior?

-I feel happy being a senior, because I’ve been waiting for this moment and waiting for all these fun senior year experiences. It is also bittersweet, because I’m experiencing many lasts- last musical, last marching band season, last art class, etc.

2.How do you feel about last year being hybrid?

-I have mixed feelings on this topic. I’m happy that I have more down time and more time to do my school assignments and I stress less, but I’m sad that my best friends are on the opposite team and the virtual assignments are a lot at times and I feel I can’t enjoy senior year as much.

3.How do you feel about being senior of the month?

-I feel honored being picked for January Senior of the Month. It means that all the time, effort, and hard work I put into my school work and projects is being noticed and appreciated by the teachers and staff. It means that I am on the right track and I’m doing the best I can.

4.Favorite and least favorite thing about being a senior during covid?

-My favorite thing about being a senior during covid, is the smaller classes and we get to know the teachers more, as well as getting days off to take time on our school work and take a breather from school. My least favorite thing is that I had to miss my last football games with the band, my last band circle, my last marching band show, my last halloween parades, and my band senior night.

5.What do you want to do after you graduate?

-After I graduate, I plan to attend Lebanon Valley College and earn my degree in Early Childhood Education with a dual in Special Education and become an elementary teacher.

6.What piece of advice would you give to underclassmen?

-If I would have to give one piece of advice, it would be to enjoy every moment.

7.If you play sports or do any other activities how were they affected with covid?

-I’m in the marching band, stage production, National Honor Society, and art club. Football games were allowed limited amounts of people and we could not travel to away games. The craft show had to be cancelled and the Disney trip was also cancelled. The Art Club was not allowed to do all the activities we usually got to do and we could not meet after school. The musical was only allowed to have a limited number of people at the show also. For NHS, it has been hard trying to find places to volunteer at for community service due to the pandemic and restrictions.

8.Best memory from senior year so far?

-My best senior year memory so far was the last day of band camp, doing the band circle one last time and getting senior of the month for January.

9.Favorite thing to do outside of school?

-My favorite thing to do outside of school is going to the races, watching racing, painting, and spending time with my family and friends.

10.Who is someone you look up to?

-I look up to my family, because they have helped me become the person I am today and they have supported me through this journey in the good and bad. I also look up to Mr. Gibson, because without him, band, and his dedication to the music program and students and making us feel like we are all one big family, I would still be the same shy and quiet person. Gibson and band have helped me grow into the person I am today, and they have helped me find my place and I have come out of my shell. I’m thankful for this band and they will always be my family and I’ll always remember what Gibson told us our first year, 5 years ago, and that was to always ‘Remember the Magic’.
