Putting a pickle in your Christmas tree has been a tradition for many years for many different families. According to Google this  traditional “Christmas pickle” may even date back to the 1890’s. The tradition began when an army soldier got very hungry at a prison camp. On Christmas Eve he was so hungry he begged a guard for a pickle. Once the soldier returned home he began the tradition of hanging a pickle ornament from the tree.

Another tradition, according to Google, that comes from Germany says that the first adult to find this Christmas pickle gets good luck for the rest of the year. Or the first child to find it on Christmas gets an extra present or even a special treat. There are many different traditions for the Christmas pickle. Maybe your family even has your own variation of the tradition too.

I think this is a fun tradition to take part in for the holidays. My family takes part in this tradition, and our award is money if we find the pickle first. I’m always ready to be the first to find the pickle every year; however, once every four years is my average.
