*SPOILER WARNING*

“Can Spider-Man come out to play?” This new movie brought everything a comic book and Spider-Man fan could want. From crossovers to callbacks, it has everything. This movie starts on the exact spot that the last movie, “Spider-Man: Far From Home” left off. Peter and MJ are in downtown NYC and Mysterio reveals to the world that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. Not only does this hurt Peter but it hurts Ned and MJ. With them being in their senior year of highschool, they were looking forward to a future at MIT together. Because of the fact that Peter Parker “murdered” Mysterio, Ned, MJ, and him are all rejected by MIT and also arrested and taken in for questioning. They’re going to need a really good lawyer.

Who other than Matt Murdock to be Peter Parker’s lawyer. If that name sounds familiar it’s because Matt Murdock is Daredevil. Matt is played by the same actor who played him in the “Daredevil” TV show from 2015-2018. With that, Daredevil and Matt Murdock are introduced into the MCU. After everything settles down Peter goes to the New York Sanctum to talk to Dr. Stephen Strange. Peter wants Strange to make a spell so everyone forgets that he is Spider-Man. As Strange is making the spell Peter keeps changing and tampering with the spell. The spell ends up not working and being destroyed because Peter kept tampering with it. Everything seems fine until Peter is on the bridge trying to talk to the President of MIT about reconsidering Ned and MJ’s applications. Meanwhile, everyone is getting out of their cars and running away. Peter’s spidey sense goes off but still isn’t sure what’s happening. Out of the smoke we see Dr Otto Octavius and his infamous robotic tentacles, bringing back Dr Octopus after 17 years. We also see a pumpkin bomb roll across the bridge and we all know what that could mean. Green Goblin and Norman Osborn are now introduced into the MCU.

Later on throughout the movie Spider-Man’s older villains are introduced into the movie. Electro, Lizard, and Sandman are all brought back and played by their original actors. Strange puts a spell on Peter’s suit and tells him to go find all the villains that he released into the world. By shooting his webs at them, it will teleport them into the Sanctum and into Strange’s holding cells. Aunt May tells Peter that instead of listening to Strange and sending them back to their universe, he should give them a second chance and try to help and cure them. He tries curing them and is almost successful. He makes Otto a new microchip so that the tentacles aren’t in control anymore and Otto has full capability over them. Meanwhile, Normon is on sabbatical and the goblin comes back. In this scene before we know that, Peter senses it with his spidey sense giving us a cool look into how it works. As Peter and Green Goblin start fighting, Lizard and Sandman escape while Electro steals the arc reactor giving him infinite power. In this scene Goblin shows us why he’s the best live action Spider-Man villain because of his fight scenes against Peter, eating his punches and laughing in his face. He body slams Peter through three stores of an apartment building and ultimately ends up killing Aunt May. Peter needs help and Ned and MJ know that.

They’re in Ned’s house with his mom trying to figure out how to help Peter. Ned has Strange’s sling ring and asks to see Spider-Man. Through the portal we see a familiar suit but it isn’t the MCU Spider-Man suit. As he gets closer we can see it’s “The Amazing Spider-Man Suit” but we don’t know who it is yet. As he takes off his mask it’s revealed that Andrew Garfield was the one in the suit and it’s a groundbreaking moment. The theatre I was in went absolutely nuts yelling and clapping. Ned and MJ then ask to see Peter Parker hoping it will be their Peter but who comes through the portal? None other than Tobey Maguire. The original Spider-Man from the Raimi Trilogy. In a heartwarming scene we see all three Spider-Man talking and understanding each other. Explaining that even though all of them are alone they’re not by themselves. This scene sets up arguably the best scenes we’ve ever seen in comic book movie history.

This movie is a masterpiece. Giving us everything we’ve ever wanted by bringing back the original Spider-Man and Spider-Man villains all in one movie. The way this movie sets up the MCU for years to come is beautiful and I think the best way it could have been done. Introducing Daredevil and bringing back the two original Spider-Man means they could give Andrew his third movie to complete his trilogy or give Tobey his rumored fourth. Even if you aren’t a Marvel or superhero fan, I would highly recommend going to watch this cinematic masterpiece.
