The 2022 Track and Field season is right around the corner. The athletes have been having pre-season workouts after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00-4:00. All athletes including underclassmen were encouraged to go. This way the underclassmen could get a feel for what they do, and the normal athletes can ease their way into the season.

“We are very excited for this season. We have been seeing a lot of new faces at pre-season workouts which is exciting,” said Emily Daubert, Head Track and Field Coach.   She also explained that the upperclassmen this year are a great resource for information, motivation, and experience. “I anticipate them leading the underclassmen to a very successful season,” said Daubert.

Daubert also mentioned how the season has a lot of strength coming back to it. She said there are some very experienced sprinters/hurdlers and jumpers. “Overall, we have some great kids coming back to all areas of track and field,” said Daubert.

“I’m really excited to be around everyone again and especially for our girls relays,” said Mikaili Donmoyer, senior. Donmoyer competes in the 4×1 and the 4×4 relays and they are her favorite events. She expressed that they lost a key player last year due to her graduating, but she thinks they still have the pieces to make a state run again this year.

“As a freshman, I think it’s going to be fun and experiencing,” said Hannah Leininger, freshman. Leininger said she is excited for her first season because it will be a whole new experience for her she hopes to compete in, “Throwing, maybe 4×4 or long jump. ”

There are definitely high expectations for this season, due to many talented athletes coming in and returning, but the 2022 Cardinal Track and Field season is looking to have a very bright future.
