The Premier League has a very large spending budget. More than half of the richest clubs in the world by revenue are in the Premier League.

The Premier League is considered by many to be the most competitive soccer league in the world. Many of the top teams in the world, for the past years, have come out of the Premier League. Soccer or, Football as Europe calls it, is the most popular sport in England, because of this many people believe that is the reason for so much success. Although it is really a different reason. The money involved in the Premier League is miles ahead of all the other top leagues in the world.

The revenue that the Premier League gains from viewership and popularity definitely give it a jump from the other leagues. Although the main reason for their money and success is the club’s ownership. Many of these clubs are owned by Middle East oil company billionaires, who use their money for the club’s advantage.

In European Football the league’s buy and sell players, which is much different than trading like in the sports many Americans are used to. That means having more money makes you better. These top teams will buy the best players in the world and become power houses. The best example of this happened in this January transfer market. Chelsea, one of the overall best clubs ever, got a new owner, Todd Boehly, the CEO of Eldridge Industries and he has a net worth of $5.3 billion dollars. This gave Chelsea a massive amount of money to go on a spending spree with. Chelsea spent over $600 million dollars in the span of a month on the best new upcoming superstars. That is absolutely insane. Chelsea are currently in tenth place in the Premier league. That goes to show just how unfair these teams with money are compared to ones without.

Chelsea have had a huge impact on the amount of money spent in the Premier League. The league was by far the biggest spending league in the whole world. The Premier League has spent around £1.91 billion pounds in this year alone. The next 4 top leagues haven’t spent nearly as much. Serie A spent a total of £647 million pounds. Ligue 1 spent £482 million. La-Liga £470 million, and the Bundesliga £418 million. The Premier league has spent £1.2 billion more pounds that all of the other top 4 European clubs this year

The amount of spending power that the Premier League has is crazy. They dominate in riches. More than half of the richest clubs in the world by revenue are in the Premier League. The top ten richest clubs in the world are: Manchester United, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester City, Paris Saint Germain, Liverpool, Juventes, and Arsenal. 5/10 clubs in the top ten come out of the Premier League. In the top 20 the premier league also dominates, having 50% of the clubs come out of the league.

I am a huge fan of watching the Premier League, and I love how competitive it has become, but this spending is absolutely mind blowing. In my opinion there should definitely be a cap on how much each club is allowed to spend in a transfer market. This would lead to the other leagues becoming way more interesting, and many more would watch, making the other leagues money go up as well. I understand that the Premier League has a ton of money and clubs are taking advantage of it, but I would love to see other leagues grow and not have the Premier League turn into a Super League, which I’m sure all fans would despise.
