Energy was high for the Cardinals as they took the field against Northern Lebanon Vikings for their first game of the season.
Despite losing the coin toss and a first play which had the Vikings leading the scoreboard 7-0,
the Cardinals came back fighting and scored on the very next drive to tie the game 7-7. The Cards and the Vikings were in a dog fight where no one could score for the rest of the first half.
The score heading into halftime was tied 7-7.
The Cardinals and the Vikings were still fighting for the lead until the Vikings ran in for the second touchdown of the game the score was 14-7. But when all hope was lost Teagan Schneck-Hains,freshman, ran it back the very next play for 98 yards to tie the game 14-14.
With the fourth quarter running out a time the game heads into overtime. The Vikings start off with in the end zone they try their hardest to get in but have to settle with a field goal the score is now 17-14 vikings. The Cardinals with their last shot to win the game on the line Lane Lehman, senior, Superman dives into the end zone for the game winning touchdown Cards win 20-17 the Vikings were defeated. The stadium erupted with players running to celebrate with Lehman. “…We grew a lot in the off-season, and I just want to show everyone what I can do and what the team can do,” said Lehman
“I was very proud of how our defense stepped up and held when they needed to win critical points in the game. Overall we played a hard fought game and dealt with adversity. That is something we have been working on as a team this off-season,” said Coach Shiffer.
