Rocket League is one of the largest esports in the world. This may be the case but what if a few simple changes are made to the game and tournament and many pros are unhappy with them. During the most recent RLCS many fans and pros were outraged and considered dropping the game and finding a job elsewhere. Large professionals by the name of SquishyMuffinz and Jstn recently quit as they could not take Epic’s changes to the competitive scene anymore.
Recently Epic has decided to cut the budget of the RLCS world championship prize pool by over 900 thousand dollars. This is terrible for the players as this is their job and they need to compete to live a normal life. That is not it for the changes though, the biggest change made was the new qualifying groups. Rocket League is a game that is highly dominated by the two main regions North America and Europe, in previous years they used a system that had 5 of the top teams from the two of these regions. However, with recent changes they lowered both of these regions teams by 1 and gave those qualifying spots to other regions. This sounds like a good idea, but the best teams come from the large regions. The teams coming from smaller regions simply can not compete with the current state of RLCS and it’s unfair to uninvite better teams just for more diverse competition. These major changes have made rocket league players want to quit and even took some big names out of the competition.
