As the Super Bowl arrives, many argue which team is going to win. While many will arguably say the halftime show is just as important. Every year the city in which the Super Bowl is occurring in, will choose who they think suits best to perform. To many, the halftime show should be the best performance to start the year. The performer must do an amazing job at entertaining the crowd. Last year’s performer was Rihanna, who did an incredible job at getting the crowd excited and she played her most loved songs by fans. This year, Usher was chosen to perform. There were already many mixed reactions based on Usher being picked, due to his popularity decreasing over the years, but fans still had hope of the halftime show being good. Many fans hoped that Taylor Swift would be performing due to her dating the Chiefs tight-end Travis Kelce, but Taylor turned down the offer when asked.
Usher performed songs “Caught Up”, “U Don’t Have To Call”, “Superstar”, “Love In This Club”, “My Boo”, “Confessions Part II”, “Nice & Slow”, “Burn”, “Bad Girl”, “U Got It Bad”, “OMG”. Usher was also accompanied by Alicia Keys, H.E.R., will.i..am, Ludacris, and Lil Jon. He sang “Ain’t Got You”, and “My Boo” with Alicia Keys. Lil Jon then took the stage to perform “Turn Down For What”. The last song Usher performed was “Yeah” which included Lil John, Ludacris, and Will.i.am.
Usher played a lot of his unpopular songs that many did not even know. Many social media posts stated that Usher was not reaching the audiences correctly, and that it was boring. The only fun and engaging moment was when Lil Jon performed “Turn Down For What”, and he wasn’t even the main performer. Many posts complemented how Usher did a great job with roller skating while performing. Overall I would say the halftime was overall boring and the songs performed were not popular until the ending.
