Lady Cards Sweep Lady Spartans

The Pine Grove Lady Cardinals faced off against the North Schuylkill Lady Spartans on September 5th. It was a very dominating performance by the Lady Cardinals. The match only went 3 sets and the Lady Cardinals did not let up at all. The starting lineup consisted of: senior, Abbie Brown; junior, Emily Kopinetz; senior, Maura Lehman; senior, Mackenzie Koch; senior, Devyn Biggs; sophomore, Megan Wolfe; and junior, Alera Aungst. This lineup had a lot of success throughout the entirety of the match.

The first set of the match was a very for the Lady Cardinals. They started out hot with a set from setter Aungst to set up a spike from Lehman. Just a few minutes later, Maura Lehman had 2 aces to help extend their lead. Brown followed by having 3 aces which only helped keep all of the momentum on the Lady Cardinals side. The Lady Cardinals had made sure to take advantage of every opportunity they were given to get any easy points. Aungst also had 3 aces in this set which ended up winning the set for the Lady Cardinals. The set ended in a score of 25-9. 

The second set in the match started off for the Lady Cardinals with a spike from senior, Karli Boyer. It was followed up by an ace from Lehman and the team kept the momentum following the hot start to the set. Wolfe had a vicious spike followed up by her 2 aces. Very shortly after, Aungst followed Wolfe up with 2 aces of her own. Lehman made a diving save to keep the volley going and the Lady Cardinals capitalized on the save by Lehman. The Lady Cardinals did not let up the Lady Spartans at all and ended up winning the second set 25-13.

The third set was underway and the Lady Cardinals were prepared to sweep the Lady Spartans. Kopinetz started off the set with a monster block after a short volley. Just a short while later, a textbook bump set and spike was executed by Makenna Schaeffer, Alera Aungst and Maura Lehman to get the Lady Cardinals closer to winning the third set. Alera Aungst followed by showed off her setting skills by setting up 3 consecutive spikes for the Lady Cardinals. Kopinetz then had an ace to put the Lady Cardinals just one point away from beating the Lady Spartans. The set ended with a Wolfe spike and the final score was 25-16, and the Lady Cardinals finished off the sweep against the Lady Spartans.
