VALLEY TOWNSHIP, PA — Two construction workers were killed when a tractor-trailer crashed into a multi-vehicle wreck on Route 30 in Chester County, Pennsylvania State Police said. The collision happened Monday evening in an active work zone on the eastbound side of the highway.
Investigators said the crash set off a chain reaction that involved three other vehicles and struck the workers at the scene. Two additional people were hurt and taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Crash happened near mile marker 270.3 around 6:50 p.m.
Police said the wreck occurred around 6:50 p.m. on May 18 near mile marker 270.3 in Valley Township. Route 30 was being used as an established roadwork area at the time, with construction signs and equipment in place.
The workers were pronounced dead at the crash site, according to officials.
Semi-truck ended up in wooded area off the roadway
Video from the scene showed a white semi-truck beyond the guardrail and in a wooded area off the road. Another vehicle was seen overturned and resting on the truck’s front end.
A damaged construction vehicle was also visible nearby, along with roadwork signs scattered across the lanes.
Pennsylvania State Police are asking witnesses for information
The Pennsylvania State Police Embreeville Station is handling the investigation and asking anyone with information about the crash to call 610-486-6280. Officials have not released additional details about what caused the tractor-trailer to start the crash.
