Avery Levan, a recurring face in the Pine Grove Area School District is the current Spanish teacher in the high school. He is fluent in Spanish.
LeVan has been given the challenge to design a curriculum for some new ESL, specifically Spanish speaking students, which is already a workload, not including the six other classes that he teaches on a day-to-day basis.
He incorporates Duolingo into his curriculum, an app/website that helps people all around the world learn languages. Duolingo helped LeVan learn, so he hopes that his students can benefit from it as well.
LeVan originally started to learn Spanish when he was enrolled in high school, while working at OIP, where he encountered many Spanish-speaking people, which pushed him even more to want to learn the language. He encourages everyone to try and learn a new language because it opens your horizons to new people and possibilities.
“I definitely want to be a lawyer, but I do love teaching.” says Levan.
LeVan enjoys teaching, but he doesn’t want to stop there. Next year he plans to attend law school, in hopes of becoming a lawyer, which has always been a dream of his.
