As a fall sport, football, getting ready for my winter sport, wrestling, I like to take two weeks off to let my body recover. The football season is very taxing on your body, so the rest after the season is vital. Due to wrestling also being very taxing on your body, I have to prepare. The amount of effort and time you have to put into wrestling to be good takes away a lot of free time you have. It’s hard to do school work or go out and have fun. But the one good thing about wrestling is when you win your match and the referee raises your hand in the middle of the mat. You feel like all the hard work paid off during the week. The transformation is tough but once you get going it feels like the season flies bye.
The workload going into wrestling is far greater than football. With practice from 3pm to 5pm, then lifting and running after it give you not left with a lot of free time. We usually have tournaments every other weekend and those can be Friday into Saturday or all day Saturday. You spend your entire season preparing for one tournament and that’s is the District 11 AA Tournament. You want to place in the top 4 of your weight class to advance to regionals. To get to states you need to place top 4 again then the real challenge begins, to win or place at states. Wrestling is a big transition to football due to the physical toll on your body.
