The season of winter comes with lots of snowfall. Some years we get luckier than others and get more snowfall than we anticipated. On Saturday we had our first big snowfall of the season. At my house we got about 9 inches of snow. When the snow first began to come down it was light and fluffy, but it didn’t stay like that all night. After a couple of hours of light snowfall it started to rain and froze some of the snow. This type of snow is not ideal for shoveling.
Shoveling snow is not fun for people that have long driveways, including me. It is filled with a couple hours of hard work. Snow is not fun to shovel when it is heavy, so usually it must get plowed. For people that have plows it is relatively easier, but for those that don’t they must search for help. With heavy snowfall comes fun things to do including sledding, snowball fights, and building snowmen.
Heavy snowfall makes for dangerous travel conditions. Driving when the roads are filled with snow can cause you to slip off the road or even get stuck. It is safer to drive when the roads are plowed and treated with salt to make it less slick. Even after the snow melts if temperatures are cold enough black ice may form on the roads. Black ice is difficult to spot because it blends into the road which makes it hard to see especially when driving at high speeds.
