After the Philadelphia Eagle shockingly bad loss in the playoffs this year to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the rumor mill immediately started regarding Jason Kelce’s retirement from the NFL. There were immediate reports indicating that Jason announced to his teammates that evening in the locker room that he was retiring. When you saw Jason in tears on the sideline after the game, it all made sense. However, is it really true? There are so many reasons for him to retire, he has had a long and successful career, he has a growing family at home to spend time with, his body at his age is probably telling him it’s time to hang up his cleats. But then again, would someone with as great of a career as Jason really want to go out with that type of loss? A few days after the rumors started, Jason himself announced that when the time comes for him to retire, he will announce it formally. He also said he would not announce his retirement after an emotional game.
I personally think Jason will give it one more year. I definitely see the pros of him wanting to retire and be with his kids, but I also think that he loves the game too much to leave it yet. And I believe his wife is way too much of an Eagles fan to let him go away from it, so I think he will return to the team. Jason isn’t denying he said he was retiring, but I am guessing he said it before giving it enough thought. I am hoping to see him back on the Eagle’s center line next season, and get another chance to get an all time great player, and another ring to end his career. He is definitely the people’s center and one we can all say we root for. Hopefully he can get himself one more Lombardi for the city of Philly and his family. We all love Jason Kelce.
