Popular female rappers Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj have recently been the center of attention in the media due to their feud. Many have thought their feud to be recent, but it goes farther back. Before all the drama, Megan had Nicki featured on one of her songs, which became Megan’s first No. 1 hit on the Billboard Rhythmic Airplay chart. One year later, Megan collaborates with Nicki’s rival Cardi B, with the song “WAP”. “WAP” quickly gained popularity with being on the Billboard Hot 100, making Megan a well known artist. During this time, Nicki puts out a song titled “Red Ruby Da Sleeze” in which she subtly disses Megan saying “I don’t mess with horses since Christopher Reeves” which refers to Megan due to her height. As time goes on, Megan collabs with Cardi B again, making Billboard Records.
Recently, Megan released her new single titled “HISS” in which Megan raps, “These girls don’t be mad at Megan, these girls mad at Megan’s Law”. Megan’s Law refers to the federal law that makes information available to the public regarding registered sex offenders. Fans suspected this was a direct jab at Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty, who was convicted of attempted sexual assault in 1995 and received a three-year probation sentence in July 2022 after failing to register as a sex offender in California in 2020. The day after the song was released, Nicki went live on Instagram discussing how infuriated she was with “HISS”. This encouraged Nicki to release her own track, “Big Foot,” in which she repeatedly says, “Lyin’ on your dead mama, on-on your dead mama,” which refers to Megan’s late mother, who passed away in March 2019. Nicki also raps, ‘Get up on your good foot,’” referring to Megan being shot in the foot by rapper Tory Lanez.
Overall the feud has been seen on many social media platforms, with fans supporting their favorite artist. Many fans agree that Megan didn’t intentionally point out Nicki’s husband for being on Megan’s Law, and Nicki just assumed it was about her husband. Hopefully both rappers can figure out their feud and possibly be friends again.
