“Mr Morale and the Big Steppers” by Kendrick Lamar won Rap Album of the Year.

“Mr Morale and the Big Steppers” by Kendrick Lamar is an amazing album that came out in 2022. However, during this year’s Grammy awards I think that it did not get the recognition it deserved. Even though it won Rap Album of the Year, I believe it should have won Album of the Year over Harry Styles’ “Harry’s House”.

Kendrick’s album was his 6th studio album which came after a 5 year hiatus or 1,855 days as he says on “United in Grief”. His last album “DAMN” was an absolute masterpiece and was critically acclaimed. However none of Kendrick’s albums have been selected for album of the year. Even his most popular album “To Pimp a Butterfly” did not win. However, I think this year should have been different.

Kendrick’s storytelling and production on this album was incredible. Songs like “The Heart Part 5” and “Count me out” show Kendrick’s versatility and style. However, Harry Styles’ album lacks substance and a message unlike Kendrick’s album. One of the most egregious being the song “Music for a Sushi Restaurant” this song shows how Kendrick’s album is far superior to Harry’s. Kendrick put his heart and soul onto the record and it got beat by a lackluster performance by Styles. Even though Kendrick did not win album of the year he walked home with 3 Grammys and his head up high. I recommend listening to “Mr Morale and the Big Steppers” as it is one of the best over recent years.
