On Tuesday, twenty students from Pine Grove Area School District will be attending the Schuylkill County Chorus auditions.
“County Chorus is a choir of the best singers, grades 8 through 12, from schools all across Schuylkill County. The kids auditioning try out in the fall, and if they make it, they receive their music to begin studying until January or February when they get the opportunity to work with a very talented conductor as they prepare for their concert,” Susan Fenstermaker, Chorus Director, stated.
According to Fenstermaker, she has been preparing these kids for this since the Spring when she first handed out the music so they could prepare for the Fall auditions.
Fenstermaker stated, “I believe that everyone should try out for it because you get to make friends with people from other schools who like the same nerdy chorus things as you do. You get the chance to work with other very talented singers, and an excellent conductor. Many people don’t think that they can do it, but they can, and once they go and actually do it, they will realize that they can do those hard things that they didn’t believe they could do.”
While many students auditioning this year for county chorus have had experience with it in the past, for Hannah Zellin, a freshmen chorus student, this is her first time.
“I decided I wanted to try out for it because my brother did it last year, and when I saw him at the concert, I thought it looked really fun. Practicing so far has been pretty enjoyable, and it luckily isn’t too difficult,” Zellin said.
