New Faces in a Small School

When a picture was mentioned, all the kids ran to get in it. “It’s rewarding to see the kids grow,” said Mrs. Imler. From left to right: Breanna Funk, junior; George Bixler, freshman; Alexis Kitchens, senior; Mrs. Imler; Owen Langkam, freshman; Clayton Norton, senior; and Michael Bixler, freshman.

This year, two new teachers, Mrs. Imler and Mrs. O’Neill, have recently joined Pine Grove Area’s special education faculty.

“I taught at Pottsville for 16 years, and also as a Public Defender as an investigator,” stated Imler.  She always found a passion for teaching students, especially for specific reasons. “I am a teacher because I like to help people understand things,” she said. Aside from being a teacher, she is also a grandmother, and enjoys spending time with her family. Many of these things contributed to her becoming a teacher.

“I had a love for math growing up,” stated O’Neill. She then discovered she enjoyed teaching others, and embraced the opportunity to become a teacher. “I like helping kids, especially explaining things to people,” said O’Neill. This prompted her to become a teacher so she could help explain these things to children. She described her teachers growing up as “cool and a big influence on my life.” She describes the best part of her job as, “getting to know students and helping them grow, along with helping them throughout life.” Her previous memories created inspiration for her to be a teacher currently.

However different both of these teachers may seem they have one thing in common- both describe Pine Grove Area as being “warm and welcoming,” even being described as, “family.” Being able to relate to students is a big part of what they do. Both teachers encourage their students to try new things, along with keeping good habits. O’Neill and Imler are making big impacts on a small school.
