The Phillies have been on absolute fire in the month of August. The Phillies record in August has been 17-10 which is not bad when some of their starting rotation has been injured. In the Phillies last 10 games they were 7-3. Players who help them achieve these wins are Bryce Harper, first basemen/DH, and Trea Turner, shortstop, as they continue to have monster months. The Phillies lead the NL wild card while having a record of 74-59 heading into the month of September.
Harper hasn’t had much power since he got Tommy John surgery but something has clicked in him recently. In the month of August he batted a .361 batting average with 10 home runs which is at the top of the league for the month of August. As well as Turner who was really struggling at the beginning of the season. He really started to turn it around when the Phillies returned to Citizens Bank Park and Turner got a standing ovation. In the month of August Turner has been batting a .324 and has had 9 home runs. They are really helping the Phillies keep the number 1 NL wild card spot.
The Phillies have been so hot in the month of August that they have the most home runs in their franchise history with a total of 59 so far. If the Phillies continue to hit this well and keep improving their pitching, then they will be a tough team to beat when it comes to postseason. They may make another run like they did last year if the team puts it together like they have the last month. The thing that the team needs right now is their relief pitching to keep runs to a minimum and stop giving up the leads they get.
