The University of North Carolina played against their rival school on Saturday Duke University. This is their first of two matchups this year; they next play on March 9th at Cameron Indoor Stadium. This is one of the biggest games of the year for both of their teams with UNC being ranked number 3rd in the nation and Duke being ranked 7th. This game was played on Saturday at the Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. This game is underway and Center for Duke Kyle Filipowski starts it off with the easy bucket for Duke. Armonda Bacot gets it going for UNC and starts it off with an easy bucket. Half way through the first half UNC is beating Duke by three 22-19. With Bacot leading the way for UNC and Freshman guard Jared McCain. UNC’s offense has mainly been off of transition points and running the floor. By the end of the first half UNC is up by 10, 35-25.
To start the second half McCain got Duke started with a tough layup for a nice bucket. But UNC Forward Harrison Ingram responds with a 3 pointer to give the Tar Heels much momentum in this game. Ingram is really stepping up for UNC to put them up by 15 almost half way through the second half. Duke makes a slight run that puts them within 10. But then arguably the best player in college basketball guard RJ Davis for UNC hits a tough step back 3-pointer to put them back up by 13. Both teams are trading buckets Filipowski hits a nice 3-pointer to bring it back within 10. Duke gets a huge call where Freshman Point Guard Elliot Cadue fouls Duke, Freshman McCain on a 3-point shot to put him at the line with under two minutes left while they are down by 13, He makes all three to go down by 10. The end of the game is Duke making easy buckets but fouling UNC. UNC goes on to win this game 93-84. Ingram led the way with 21 and 13, while Bacot had 25,10 and 5, and Davis after the rough first half ended up having 17 and 5.
