The Philadelphia Phillies meet the Miami Marlins in the Wild Card at Citizens Bank Park. This series should be good because they are division rivals. The start of game one the Phillies have Zack Wheeler on the mound and the Marlins have Jesus Luzardo.
In the first inning Wheeler throws a one two three inning to bring the Phillies up to bat. Kyle Schwarber,DH, started off the inning with a single then Trea Turner,SS, is up and he rips a double down the left field line. But the next three batters for the Phillies couldn’t get the job done and get the run in. The next one and a half inning were scoreless. Then in the Bottom of the Third Johan Rojas, CF, gets to second base then Alec Bohm,3B, hits a double to left field and scores the first run for the Phillies. The Marlins can’t get anything going against Wheeler. In the Bottom of the Fourth Jt Realmuto, Catcher, gets a single to start the inning, then Nick Castellanos hits a double they get running on second and third. Bryson Stott,2nd base for the Phillies, hit a single to center Realmuto scores but Castellanos gets thrown out at home by Marlins center fielder Jazz Chislom. Stott gets to 2nd on the play and now Christian Pache,LF, hits a single and that scores Stott. The game was scoreless all the way up to the 7th inning where Bryan De La Cruz,OF, hit an infield single and Josh Bell, 1B, scored on the play. Which was the first run Wheeler gave up all game. The Phillies bring in Jose Alverado who shuts down the Marlins last hitter in the 7th inning. Bryce Harper,1B, hit a single to left field. Castellanos hit another double where Harper ran through the stop sign and ended up scoring. The Phillies end up winning 4-1 and all of the Phillies have a hit in game 1. Wheeler pitched 6.2 IP 1 ER and 8 strikeouts.
In game 2 neither team got anything going until the third inning. The Marlins had Braxton Garrett on the mound and the Phillies had Aaron Nola. In the bottom of the third Pache walked and Rojas got out, Schwarber hit a double to right field and then Turner came up and singled to right and Schwarber scored. The Phillies are up 2-0 after the third inning. Nola has another no run inning. In the bottom of the fourth Realmuto hit a solo homerun. Next inning was scoreless. The Phillies are up 3-0 after the 5th inning. In the 5th inning the Phillies had the bases loaded and Stott was up with a lefty pitcher in and on the first pitch he hit a grandslam to right field. The Phillies go up 7-0. The game was scoreless up until the 9th inning and Bell singled to left to get the Marlins their first run of the game. The Phillies end up sweeping the Marlins in the Wild Card.
