Although Penn State started slow with only scoring a field goal in the first quarter, their defense helped them out by only allowing a field goal as well, making it 3-3 at the end of the 1st. Shortly after the start of the 2nd quarter, Wildcats’ Ben Bryant ran in a 1 yard touchdown to make it 10-3. Trey Potts then responded with a rushing touchdown of his own to tie it up 10-10 at halftime. The Northwestern Wildcats were neck-and-neck with the #6 ranked Penn State Nittany Lions, showing a potential upset.
In the 3rd quarter, the Nittany Lions roared back with 17 unanswered points from 2 rushing touchdowns from Drew Allar and Nick Singleton as well as a 47 yard field goal in the 3rd quarter, making it 27-10. This made talk of an upset fully simmer from fans’ thoughts. At the start of the 4th, Northwestern kicker Jack Olsen made a 28 yard field goal, showing a little light for the Wildcats. Shortly after the field goal, Nick Singleton scored another rushing touchdown, resulting in a 34-13 score. Less than 2 minutes later, Trey Potts caught a 30 yard touchdown pass from backup QB Beau Pribula, resulting in the final score, 41-13. After this win, the Nittany Lions are now in College Football Playoff talk, hoping to be a National Championship contender.
