The girls soccer team had an outstanding season this year. They had a winning record, and made it to the district finals. They unfortunately lost 1-0 to moravian in overtime, but making it to the final put them in states. The Girls soccer team has only made it to states 7 times, and never won the first round, but this would change. The Pine Grove Area Girls Soccer Team made History.
In the first round of states the Girls played Camp Hill. Last year the girls team also played Camp Hill but lost to them 1-0 in double overtime. At the start of the game Taylor Ott was making many key saves keeping them from conceding a goal. Pine Grove also had a few goal scoring opportunities. Then from a good team play, the ball was played out wide to Viktorya Luckenbach, Junior, she crossed the ball in and Ella Fasnacht, Senior, hit the ball in the back of the net. She was the fourth girl in Pine Grove history to score in states. Camp Hill came back in the second half to score, tying the game. The game went through both overtimes scoreless, it would go into penalties.
Camp Hill shot first, and made it. Rayna Zimmerman, Senior, was Pine Grove’s first shooter, she put the ball in the bottom right corner of the goal. Camp Hill missed their second shot. McKenna Valentine, Senior, scored, the Girls were up by 1. Camp Hill made their third shot. Luckenbach was the next shooter for Pine Grove. She shot and hit the right hand post. It was tied back up. Camp Hill’s fourth shooter scored. Addison Diechert, junior, shot high over the bar. The Camp Hills girl smoked the right post. Fasnacht scores. It was in the second round of 5 shooters. Camp Hills girl came up and made her shot. Gianna Pompei, sophomore, also scored. Camp Hill seventh shooter shot it way over the bar. Myla Fisher came up to shoot for Pine grove, she could win the game for them, and she did. She scored and Pine Grove Area Girls won the game, making history for the team. They were the first soccer team to win a state game. Pine Grove Girls went to the quarterfinals of states where they unfortunately lost 4-0 to Dock Mennonite.
